FIFO Hospitality Jobs

Picture FIFO and you probably see hi-vis and huge machinery. A mine camp also has a whole workforce to feed, house and look after, and that work suits people who are good at looking after others. If you have worked a kitchen, a bar or a cleaning crew, there is a mine job that fits you. It can be your first FIFO roster, and it needs no trade.

What FIFO hospitality is

FIFO hospitality is the cooking, cleaning, serving and bar work that mine camps need, done on a fly in fly out roster. The main job is the utility, who works across housekeeping, kitchen and dining, and bar and retail. Chefs cook, and supervisors and village managers run the teams.

FIFO hospitality jobs: Where to start

Find FIFO hospitality jobs

Search FIFO hospitality on SEEK (opens in a new tab), on Indeed (opens in a new tab) and on Jora (opens in a new tab), and also "FIFO utility", "service attendant", "catering attendant" and "hospitality all-rounder". The camp companies list their roles on their own careers pages as well.

Before you apply, check where each ad's flights leave from, called the point of hire. Getting there is usually up to you.

Can you get a FIFO hospitality job with no experience?

Short answer

A FIFO hospitality job with no mining experience is possible, because the ads ask for hospitality work in place of mine work. Several October 2026 ads took people who had never done a FIFO swing.

Hospitality experience and FIFO experience are asked for separately. Sodexo's service attendant ad wanted "experience in Catering, Housekeeping, Bar/Retail, and/or Industrial Cleaning" and then said "No FIFO experience required!" Another ad, a utility intake on Workforce Australia, the government's job site, was for entry-level service attendants with no FIFO experience.

Some ads do want FIFO experience, full-time ones included. Unite Resourcing's casual pool wanted six months of FIFO utility work, a contractor's full-time ad for kitchenhands and housekeepers made a year essential, and Programmed's kitchen utility asked for previous FIFO experience. IronMerge's pool considered newcomers who had two years of hospitality behind them.

For a newcomer, the camp companies' own full-time ads are the place to start: they took people new to FIFO, and Sodexo and Civeo both offered training.

How do you get a FIFO hospitality job, step by step?

Short answer

You get a FIFO hospitality job by getting a licence, your working rights and the right ticket, then going to the camp companies first. Their full-time ads took newcomers with hospitality work behind them.

From hospitality work, in WA

  1. Get a WA driver's licence if you can (several WA ads asked for one), a police check, and working rights that last a year; Civeo's ad offered no sponsorship.
  2. Get the ticket for your department: an RSA for the bar, or food safety for the kitchen (tickets). Every course asks for your USI (Unique Student Identifier), a free number you make online.
  3. Base yourself near Perth Airport, where the WA ads flew from (rosters and flights).
  4. Lead your resume with the hospitality work you've done, because the camp companies take it instead of mining time.
  5. Try the camp companies (who hires) before the agencies, whose casual pools asked for FIFO time or years of hospitality.
  6. Once you're offered the job, the camp company books your medical and sorts what you need on site.
  7. On site, you start in one department and learn the others, on 12-hour days and some nights (a typical day).
  8. Later, the ladder runs up through the camp company's teams, or across to the kitchen or the office (where it leads).

With no hospitality work, or outside WA

With no hospitality work at all, the Workforce Australia utility intake is the door that took entry-level starters.

For Queensland, look for listings at Brisbane Airport, and the cleaning page has the camps' hubs in each state.

How do FIFO hospitality jobs work, and who hires?

Short answer

FIFO hospitality jobs are with the companies that run the mine camps, and with labour hire agencies that fill casual shifts. The camp companies advertised full-time roles in October 2026, and the agencies advertised casual pools.

The mine owner builds the village, and a camp provider runs it under contract: the kitchen, the dining room, the rooms and the bar. In October 2026 the boards carried ads from Sodexo, Compass Group, Civeo, ISS and Cater Care.

Labour hire agencies such as IronMerge, Unite Resourcing and Connect Staffing ran casual pools, which send people to camps at various sites. The how mining works page explains who hires whom.

What FIFO hospitality jobs ask for

Look for these in the ads:

  • Hospitality experience, spelled out by Sodexo and Civeo as kitchen, bar, housekeeping or industrial cleaning
  • A driver's licence: a WA one in the Civeo, Unite Resourcing and IronMerge ads, and a manual one for Unite Resourcing
  • Working rights: Civeo wanted them "for the next 12 months" and said sponsorship was not available
  • A national police clearance, for Unite Resourcing

After the offer, the employer arranges:

  • A pre-employment medical, the uniform, the flights and the room, with meals on site

Nice to have, and what each one gets you:

  • A food safety certificate, which Programmed's kitchen utility ad required, for work in the kitchen
  • Bus driving: Sodexo advertised a utility who also drives the camp bus

FIFO hospitality WA: rosters, and where they fly from

The full-time utility ads ran 2:1, two weeks on and one week off, and some wrote it 14:7. Village managers' ads ran 8:6 and, on one, 4:3.

A casual's roster follows the camp. A casual all-rounder in a 2024 Compass Group video worked a week on and a week off, and sometimes nine days on and five off, depending on what the camp needed.

In the WA ads the flight left from Perth: Civeo's said "Fly from Perth", IronMerge's pool said "FIFO from Perth", and Unite Resourcing's said you "MUST be based in Perth, WA". If you live elsewhere, those ads want an address near the airport the job flies from. The rosters page has what each roster gives back.

Are there FIFO bar jobs in FIFO hospitality?

Short answer

FIFO bar jobs in the ads are a department of the utility job: Civeo and Sodexo list bar and retail beside housekeeping and kitchen work. FIFO bartender jobs go by other names in the ads: none on the first page of SEEK, Jora or Indeed in October 2026 was titled bartender.

Fly in fly out bar jobs and FIFO bar work: the wet mess and the shop

Fly in fly out bar jobs are in the wet mess, the camp bar, and the shop beside it. Civeo's ad described the work as "Bar / Retail: Serve beverages or manage stock and sales in our outlets", one of four departments a utility could be placed in.

An all-rounder filmed by Compass Group said the tavern job is "much more than just staying behind the bar". The crew stocks the shop and organises the fridges where the alcohol is kept, so the job is retail as well as bar work.

FIFO bar jobs WA: the RSA and the experience

An RSA is the certificate for serving alcohol, and Civeo's WA utility ad asked for one alongside hospitality experience. Bar work in a pub or club counts as that experience: Civeo and Sodexo both named bar work among the kinds they wanted.

FIFO barista jobs and FIFO waitress jobs: what the ads call them

No October 2026 result carried the title barista or waitress. The nearest titles were catering attendant at Compass Group and service attendant at Sodexo.

The dining room is the dry mess, the camp's eating room, and serving meals there is the catering attendant's job. Compass Group's Jora listing summed the job up as "Assist in food preparation, serving meals, and maintaining cleanliness" and preferred "Previous hospitality or customer service experience", which a waitress from a city restaurant has.

How much do FIFO hospitality jobs pay?

Short answer

FIFO hospitality jobs paid a middle rate of $39.75 an hour for a camp utility and $48 for a chef in the October 2026 ads. The middle salaries were $76,503 for a housekeeper or cleaner, $88,122 for a utility and $100,050 for a chef.

Each job's ad nearest the middle figure, or its bottom and top ad with fewer than five, from 45 job ads of 12 October 2026. Only ads that stated a figure are in the table. Most don't.

The salaried ads are full-time jobs with the roster built in, and Civeo's said its pay was equalised across each fortnight, with no big and small pays. The hourly ads are casual pools, which pay for the shifts you work.

Bar work comes with the utility role in these ads, so the utility rows are its pay. The pay calculator turns any rate and roster into a year, and the chef and cleaning pages have the full range for those jobs.

What is FIFO hospitality work, day to day?

A typical day for a FIFO hospitality worker

Civeo's ad splits the utility job into four departments, and a new starter joins one and gains experience in the others:

  • Housekeeping: keeping the rooms clean and comfortable
  • Kitchen and dining: preparing and serving the meals
  • Bar and retail: serving drinks and managing the stock
  • Mine site cleaning: keeping the remote industrial areas hygienic and safe

A small camp's ad for a chef and a utility described 2:1 with 12-hour day and night shifts, and IronMerge's pool wanted flexibility on nights.

What is a FIFO hospitality job really like?

Short answer

A FIFO hospitality job is long days of service work in a camp, with the room, the meals and the flights provided. Civeo's ad asked for a commitment to 12-hour days.

The two kinds of job feel different. A permanent role has a fixed roster, and Civeo's ad called its utility job permanent and full time. A casual takes the shifts they want, and the camp's needs set the roster.

The people you work beside matter. In Compass Group's recruitment video, an all-rounder on casual shifts said you need a good relationship with your workmate "because you're with them all day", and called the team great. Civeo's ad listed an employee assistance program and health and lifestyle coordinators, and if a swing gets dark, Lifeline is 13 11 14 and the FIFO mental health page has the rest of the help.

Where does a FIFO hospitality job lead?

Short answer

A FIFO hospitality job leads to supervisor and village manager roles with the camp company, or across to cooking and camp administration. Civeo's ad said many of its team started as utilities.

The ladder is in the ads. Civeo wrote: "Many of our team members start as Utilities and progress into Supervisors, Managers, and beyond." Its village manager ad described the job as overseeing housekeeping, kitchen, dining and cleaning, and a Sodexo village manager ad asked for four years of managerial experience in hospitality or facility management.

The move across is to the kitchen, and it takes a qualification: a recruitment firm's FIFO chef ad wanted a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent, and six months of mine site chef experience. Camp administration is the other move across: Civeo advertised a FIFO site administrator to support its village operations. The chef and site administrator pages cover those moves.

Is a FIFO hospitality job right for you?

Three honest questions

  1. Can you be on your feet and around people for a long day? The work is rooms, meals and drinks for a camp full of people, one shift after another.
  2. Can you work nights if the roster says so? Two of the ads wanted nights covered, and a casual pool sends you where the gap is.
  3. Do you want choice or a fixed roster? A casual picks the shifts and lets the camp set the roster, while a permanent role fixes both the roster and the pay.

If you've read this far and still want in, sort out the licence and the right to work. Put your hospitality work in the first line of the resume.

Fake ads turn up on real job boards too. An ad that asks you to pay a fee before you start is a warning sign: report it to Scamwatch (opens in a new tab).
