FIFO Storeperson Jobs

Most crews on a mine walk into the same room at some point in the shift. The fitter comes for a hose, the electrician for a relay, the operator for a tyre, the supervisor for the part that has stopped the crusher. The person behind that counter is the storeperson, and the job is to know where everything is, have it counted, and get the one thing nobody planned for onto a plane tonight. If you have run a forklift and a stock system in town, the mine's store is the same job with higher stakes and a camp. The ads want the forklift ticket and the software before they want the mine.
What a FIFO storeperson job is
A FIFO storeperson job, or warehouse job, is running the store on a mine: receiving freight, issuing parts, keeping the count right and chasing the part that stops the plant. The ads call it storeperson, warehouse officer or supply officer.

Find FIFO storeperson jobs
Search FIFO storeperson on SEEK (opens in a new tab), on Indeed (opens in a new tab) and on Jora (opens in a new tab), and also "FIFO warehouse", "supply officer" and "logistics officer". The searches bring up town stores as well; the mine ads usually say FIFO, the roster or the mine in the title.
Before you apply, check where each ad's flights leave from, called the point of hire. Getting there is usually up to you.

Can you get a FIFO storeperson job with no mine experience?
Short answer
A FIFO storeperson job with no mine experience is possible from a city warehouse, because most ads want a forklift ticket, a driver's licence and stock software first. Some ads prefer experience on a mine or a processing plant, and a few require it.
The store is one of the mine jobs closest to a city job, and the ads read that way. WesTrac's October 2026 ad for its Port Hedland branch wanted a forklift licence and attention to detail, and offered to teach hose building. A gold miner's warehouse officer ad asked for Pronto, Excel and a current forklift licence, and only preferred mine experience.
Some ads do insist on mine time, such as an agency's contract job in Kalgoorlie. If yours do, start with the miners' and the dealers' ads. Or start in a city store that supplies the mines: MACA's exchange inventory store in Welshpool hired a storeperson in October, Monday to Friday, for the same kind of stock without the flight.
FIFO warehouse jobs, FIFO storeman jobs, supply officer: the same ad
The boards use several titles for one job, and people search for FIFO warehouse jobs and FIFO storeperson jobs alike. Storeperson and store person are the common titles on the ads, and warehouse officer is the miners' version. Supply officer is a gold miner's title, logistics officer is the job that drives the truck as well, and a tool storeperson runs the tool store. Storeman is the older word, still searched and rare on the ads, so search all of them.
How do you become a FIFO storeperson, step by step?
Short answer
You become a FIFO storeperson by getting your forklift licence and time on stock software in a city warehouse, then applying to the ads that only prefer mine experience.
From no experience, in WA
- Get your forklift licence: a two-day course, then four to six weeks for WorkSafe WA to issue it (where and what it costs). Every course asks for your USI (Unique Student Identifier), a free number you make online.
- Get a warehouse job in town on stock software such as Pronto; one supplying the mines is closest to the real thing (a start in town).
- Get a police check, which almost any job on site needs.
- Live in Perth for the WA jobs, or in Kalgoorlie for a Goldfields job that buses crews in (where they fly from).
- Apply first to the miners' and dealers' ads, which tend to prefer mine time rather than require it, and search every title the boards use (the other names).
- Once you're offered the job, the employer books the medical and drug test, the induction and the flights.
- On your first swing, expect receiving first thing, the counter when the crews come in, and hot orders when the plant stops (a typical day).
Outside WA
On a Queensland coal mine, a storeperson also needs Standard 11, the coal mine induction, and a coal board medical, which the employer pays for. The forklift licence counts in every state, wherever you got it.
How do FIFO storeperson jobs work, and who hires?
Short answer
FIFO warehouse jobs come from four kinds of employer: the miners' own supply teams, the mining contractors, the equipment dealers, and the labour hire agencies that fill shutdowns and contracts.
The miners run their own supply teams and hire direct, as Catalyst Metals did for its Plutonic gold mine on 8:6, eight days on and six off. The contractors hire for the parts their own crews use. Thiess hired at the Iron Bridge iron ore operation on 2:1, two weeks on and one off, and Emeco, the equipment hire company, at its Goldfields site on 8:6, day shift only.
The equipment dealers run parts branches in the mining towns, and WesTrac flies storepeople to Port Hedland. The agencies staff shutdowns and short contracts by the hour, Programmed among them, with day and night shifts.
What the ads ask for
Most ads ask for:
- An LF forklift licence, the high-risk work licence for forklifts, and a driver's licence
- A stock system such as Pronto, with Excel and email
- Warehouse experience, ideally in mining or heavy industry
After the offer, the employer arranges:
- A medical and a drug and alcohol screen, the site induction, the flights
Nice to have, and what each one gets you:
- A heavy rigid truck licence: the logistics officer jobs that drive as well as store
FIFO storeperson jobs WA and Queensland: rosters, and where they fly from
More of the October ads ran 8:6 than any other roster, and several said day shift only or family friendly. Thiess and WesTrac ran 14:7, the same as 2:1, as did another contractor's maintenance store, and the shutdown stores run as long as the shut does.
Perth is the hub for Western Australia, and Ora Banda's Goldfields ad offered BIBO, a bus in from Kalgoorlie, instead of the flight. In Queensland, one October ad flew storepeople from Townsville to the Phosphate Hill mine, and the coal ads were listed in Blackwater and Rockhampton. The rosters page has what each roster gives back.
How much do FIFO storeperson jobs pay?
Short answer
FIFO storeperson pay in the October 2026 ads was $42 to $63.46 an hour, middle $55.50, and $115,000 a year on salary. Hourly rates pay for the hours of the swing, so a year's pay depends on the roster.
| Role | Advertised pay | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Lowest hourly ad | $42.00 per hour + Penalties | SEEK, Job Connect, October 2026 |
| Highest hourly ad | $63.46 per hour | SEEK, WorkPac, October 2026 |
| Salaried ad | Up to $115k per year (based on experience) | SEEK, Emeco, October 2026 |
The bottom and top ad of each kind, from 7 job ads of 12 October 2026; the middle hourly figure is $55.50 an hour. Only ads that stated a figure are in the table. Most don't.
FIFO storeperson salary: hourly or on the payroll
Hourly pay goes with the shutdown and contract roles: paid by the hour worked, with penalties on some, and nothing between jobs. Salaried pay belongs to the permanent roles, with the roster built into the figure, and one gold miner's ad added bonuses and a share scheme. Several ads paid super on every hour worked. The pay calculator turns either into a year on your roster, and the salary page compares other FIFO jobs.
What is a FIFO storeperson job like, day to day?
A typical day in a fly in fly out warehouse job
The road train comes in early, and the first hours are receiving: unloading with the forklift, opening containers, checking every line against the purchase order and putting it away in a bin location the software knows. Then the counter opens and the crews come through for the shift's parts, each one issued against a work order so the count stays true. In between there is the stocktake that never finishes, the dispatch of cores and repairs back to the city, and the emails to the procurement team in Perth about what is late.
The hot order is the part of the job that can't wait. A seal or a hose fails, the plant stops, and the storeperson is the one finding the part on the shelf, or on a plane, or in a ute from the next mine over.

The yard and the heat
The stock is not cardboard boxes. Crusher liners, excavator teeth, track pads and tyres live in the yard, and forklifts and strong backs move them in forty-degree heat and red dust. The ads ask for both sides of the job: one Kalgoorlie ad listed a forklift licence, tech literacy and physical fitness together.
What is a FIFO storeperson job really like?
Short answer
A FIFO storeperson job is usually a day shift, half on the forklift and half at a screen, with crews from across the site coming to your counter. The pressure comes from the plant, not the boss.
The store is where the site comes to you, which is the job's pleasure and its pressure. You get to know the crews and supervisors fast, and you're the first person they look for when something is missing.
The 8:6 rosters on most of the miners' ads, many of them days only, make it easier on a body and a family than a 2:1, and two of the ads called their 8:6 family friendly. The exceptions are the shutdown stores, on twelve-hour days until the shut ends, and the sites that keep a night shift. If a swing gets dark, Lifeline is 13 11 14, and the mental health page has the signs to watch for and where else to get help.
Where does a FIFO storeperson job lead?
Short answer
A FIFO storeperson job leads to senior storeperson, then warehouse supervisor and supply chain lead, and the October 2026 boards had ads for each.
The October ads showed the ladder. There was a senior storeperson's job in the Murchison, a warehouse supervisor for a gold project's restart, a logistics and warehousing supervisor at a rare earths company, and a supply chain lead for a gold processing plant at Laverton.
Is a FIFO storeperson job right for you?
Three honest questions
- Do you like a count that balances? The job is the stocktake and the work order as much as the forklift. If a wrong number bothers you, you will be good at it; if it doesn't, the plant will find out.
- Can you be the one they come to? Every crew's missing part is your problem by lunchtime. People who like being asked do well; people who want to be left alone do not.
- Which roster is on the ad? 8:6 days on a miner's payroll and a shutdown store on twelve-hour shifts are different lives. Read the roster line before the pay line.
