White Card Online

A woman in a hi-vis vest at her kitchen table, holding up her ID card and a hard hat to a live White Card class on her laptop

In WA you can do a White Card at the kitchen table and have the card in the post within days. Elsewhere it's mostly a live class on a video call, and in Victoria it isn't online at all. The trap is doing another state's online course from where you live, because your card may not stand up. Check what your state allows first, and the card you pay for will be one you can use.

What an online White Card course is

An online White Card course is the construction safety course, CPCWHS1001, done on a screen instead of in a room, but never entirely on your own. In WA and Tasmania you work through it at your own pace, then finish with a live video check with a trainer. In most other states you join a live class on video, with the trainer watching the whole time.

White Card online: Where to start

Where to do it online

In WA, Eclipse (opens in a new tab) and Blue Dog (opens in a new tab) run self-paced courses for anyone in WA while they do it. For live video classes, Eclipse and White Card Webinars (opens in a new tab) cover Queensland and NSW, and Blue Dog covers Queensland.

It's unusual, but a court found that one online provider asked students to pay before they'd finished, after promising they'd only pay once they passed. If a course says you pay when you pass, check what's still to do after you pay.

Can you do a White Card online in your state?

Short answer

You can do a White Card online at your own pace in Western Australia and Tasmania, and as a live video class in Queensland, the Northern Territory and the ACT. Victoria only runs it in a classroom, and in NSW and SA it depends on the provider. Where you are during the course decides which state's rules apply.

Our picks are registered training providers, approved by the state where it keeps a list, and well reviewed. Prices and times are from each provider's own page, October 2026, so book direct and check the date before you pay.

Every state accepts a card done properly in another. Victoria checks that a card was lawfully obtained. Other registered providers run the course too, and the resource list has them.

WA and Tasmania: at your own pace

In WA you read and answer questions online, then show your safety gear and answer a few questions over video, usually within four or five hours. Be in WA while you do the course, and be ready to show an address to prove that is the case. WorkSafe WA accepts a WA licence, a bill with a WA address, or an address in WA the card can be posted to. Ask the provider which it takes before you pay.

Tasmania works the same way, and WorkSafe Tasmania sends the card after you lodge your form at a Service Tasmania shop.

Queensland (QLD), the NT and the ACT: a live class on video

In Queensland, the live class has to be run by a provider approved for it, with no more than 15 people per trainer and at least four and a half hours of training. The trainer sees and hears you the whole way through, just as in a room.

The NT started allowing live online classes on 1 July 2026. The trainer checks your ID on camera and watches you put on your safety gear. One NT government page still says online courses aren't recognised, but NT WorkSafe's own pages, updated in June 2026, say live classes count.

In the ACT, the rules only say the course must run for at least six hours, and providers run it live on video. You then apply to Access Canberra for the card yourself.

NSW and South Australia: ask before you book

Neither SafeWork NSW nor SafeWork SA publishes its rules for online classes. Some providers in both states run live classes on Zoom and say they're approved, as long as you're in the state for the whole class. SafeWork NSW's own 2022 rules for providers said classroom only, so before you pay, ask the provider to show you its approval.

Victoria: in a room

Victoria doesn't allow the course online at all, live or otherwise. WorkSafe Victoria requires a six-hour minimum in a classroom with an approved provider, and photo ID on the day.

Can you do another state's White Card online?

Short answer

You can't do another state's White Card online from home, because each state only issues its card for a course done there. WA checks hardest, asking for proof of where you are at the time. A card you got properly in one state is good in all the others.

This is where people get caught. A Queenslander can't use WA's at-your-own-pace course to skip Queensland's live class, even though Queensland accepts WA cards, because WA won't issue the card to someone who isn't in WA.

If you're on a WA roster, you may be able to do WA's course while you're there, as long as you can prove you're in WA. Victoria says it accepts interstate cards that were lawfully obtained, so a card from a course you weren't entitled to do may not be accepted there.

How does an online White Card course work?

Short answer

An online White Card course works like a class on your laptop: you learn the material, answer questions and show the trainer your safety gear on camera. A live class runs at set times with other students. A self-paced course lets you start when you like, and finishes with a short video call.

Have your safety gear ready before you start, because showing it is part of the assessment: the providers we recommend ask for a hard hat, a hi-vis vest or shirt, safety glasses, and earplugs or earmuffs. In a live class your ID is checked on camera first, so sit somewhere you can be seen and heard.

How much is a White Card online?

Short answer

The online White Card courses we recommend cost $59 to $169 in October 2026. There are slightly cheaper online options available if you look. However, the overall ratings for these courses were less consistent than the ones listed.

Can you get a White Card online the same day?

Short answer

You can finish an online White Card course in a day, and several providers issue your certificate the same day you pass, though some take until the next business day. The card itself takes longer: days from a WA or Queensland provider, and weeks where the state sends it. Your certificate lets you start work in the meantime, for up to 60 days.

If you need the card itself today, some WA classroom providers hand it over at the end of the course.

Can you do a White Card online for free?

Short answer

A White Card online is rarely free, but job seekers can ask Workforce Australia to pay for one, as long as they get approval before booking. In Queensland, Skilling Queenslanders for Work programs sometimes include it, though you join through a local organisation rather than applying yourself. Subsidised classroom courses cost less again in WA and the NT.

Which online White Card course should you do?

Four honest questions

  1. Where will you be during the course? That decides whose rules apply. If you're in Queensland, a WA course isn't open to you, however cheap it looks.
  2. Does your state accept this kind of course? At your own pace, live on video or in a room: match the course to your state's rule, not the other way round.
  3. Is the provider registered? Look it up on training.gov.au, and in the NT, check it's on NT WorkSafe's approved list.
  4. Would a class be quicker? A class is over within the day, and WA providers hand you the card there and then. Reviews of Perth classes include people who started a course online, got stuck for weeks, then finished in a classroom one afternoon.

Ready to book?

Before you book a course your state allows, make your USI, the free number every training provider asks for, online at usi.gov.au (opens in a new tab). It takes one form of ID, or your passport and visa once you're in Australia. On the day, have photo ID, a camera and microphone, and your hard hat, hi-vis, glasses and ear protection for the trainer to see.

A White Card is one ticket. Whether FIFO suits you is six questions. Three minutes. Free.
